Beaumont, TX - Louisiana-Style Lagniappe
June 01, 2011
Normally birthdays are spent watching people open presents and eat cake.
“But I wanted something special,” Laura Hinson said.
This year, she spent hers at Painting with a Twist, an art class that started in Mandeville, La., in 2007 and already has almost 50 locations in 11 states.
The concept’s popularity may be helped in part by the little Louisiana-style lagniappe: You can bring your own booze to sip during class.
I checked out the Dowlen Road location, a franchise owned by Ashley Hebert, who decided to open the studio after attending a class in Lafayette and “falling in love with it,” according to her husband, Brandon Hebert.

My sister and I visited Painting With A Twist tonight for sisters night out and I wanted to share it with everyone.
Painting With A Twist allows you to find your inner artist. Each night has a painting scheduled. You sign up online for a picture that you want to paint from scratch. Everything you need is provided, however if you would like you can bring a bottle of wine and snacks to munch on while you are painting. An instructor shows you how to paint your chosen picture. They walk you thru step by step. You can work ahead, change up the colors, or take your time. The key is to make a unique painting that is all yours.
Hazel and I had a blast.

Painting with a Twist....is awesome! (YES, we painted that!)
We went last night and obviously I got distracted and didn’t want to “follow the rules” so that’s why I ended up with my own design. (Which BTW, I like Lauren & Kelsea’s better LOL!) The twist is that they have wine (or you can bring your own) but it makes it a lot of fun. Kels & I opted to have Skinnygirl Margarita, which is surprisingly good for a bottled Margarita! Lauren polished off a bottle of Moscato, bahaha.
If you live in Southeast Texas (or have one in your area) you should totally go check it out!
