I have been instructing at Painting with a Twist for about two years. I was hired right after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, with a Bachelors Degree of Fine Art. GO LONGHORNS! I have been interested in art since I was a little girl, watching my Mom paint murals and faux finish huge houses. I grew up in a family with six siblings. Everyday was a loud house and I loved it. Teaching at Painting with a Twist reminds me of home, loud music and lots of laughs!
My name is Bailey Gage Terry, I am a self taught artist with the exception of two creative parents showing me the ropes. I began holding a paintbrush before I spoke my first words. Art has always been a part of my life, whether it was attending art festivals or helping wash brushes, it soon became a part of me. Growing up, I always looked forward to entering pieces into art shows. I became even more motivated to make my parents as well as myself proud. My main goal became to share the gift they passed down to me with the world. I strongly believe you don’t have to be an artist to appreciate art or even create art. It is naturally apart of every day life, from putting an outfit together in the morning, to creating a delicious meal for the family at dinnertime. Art is apart of us all, it is the one universal language that brings all of mankind together. It is taking an idea from inside your mind and using your imagination to create something from nothing and putting it out into the world. I’ve always grown up exposed to the traveling and exploring the world. Every summer since I was seven, I traveled to the island of St.Thomas, located in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This exotic paradise became my fathers new home as well as mine. The Island grew on me fast! The beautiful beaches and exotic nature took me by storm. It was a culture shock at first but I quickly found myself in love with this world and its people. The locals and Rastas took me in as a sister and I began exploring the culture and art this world had to offer. I became friends with local artists and began practicing my art everyday. I loved water colors and sketching the scenery around me. It wasn’t until I was about 15 when I began experimenting with acrylics on canvas. I began pleinair painting on beaches and absolutely loved it! While painting on these beautiful sands, I would always meet the most interesting people from all over the world. They’d all say they wish they knew how to paint and draw and that it was a gift that not many are blessed with. This got me thinking a lot about how many people here on earth are artists that don’t even realize it. I began to think of ways I could not only create art that made people happy, but to share the gift of art with others. I always dreamed of becoming a successful artist showcasing my pieces in the finest shows and museums, but what would make me even happier would be to show and teach people how they can create their very own masterpieces and share a piece of themselves with the world. Leaving a mark here on earth isn’t always something that has to be made by you, but can be shared and shared through generations, and live on long after you have. Landing a position teaching painting classes with Painting With a Twist has allowed me to do just that! Every day I get to share my gift with others and make them happy and proud of themselves in the art they create, and for that I am very grateful.
Jessica was born and raised here in the Woodlands, TX. A real geek at heart, her art is inspired by comic book super heroes and video game characters. Growing up, she wanted to get into graphic design, but found her passion in traditional painting and illustration. You can find some of her work in underground shows in the Houston, Dallas and Austin areas as well as on her web site at Melayneyart.com
