Mandeville, LA - Fight Dat for Vera Bradley Painting with a Purpose
7/27/2014 - Join us in our Fight with Vera Bradley for Breast Cancer! In 2013, Painting with a Purpose events at 50 PWAT studios nationwide raised $46,500 for breast cancer research! What an amazing testament to what can happen when creative and motivated people gather to make a difference. Fun, creative, beautiful and full of life, Mary Sloan was one of the first Vera Bradley sales representatives and a mother to two daughters and a son. She was a longtime friend to Vera Bradley Co-founders Barbara Bradley Baekgaard and Patricia Miller. Mary's vibrant life was cut short by breast cancer in the early 1990s. In response, in 1993, Barbara and Patricia committed to funding breast cancer research through a portion of Vera Bradley’s profits. They established the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer in 1998 to provide a structure for their efforts and to raise additional funds. Today, the Foundation’s mission is woven into the fabric of Vera Bradley and is part of the company culture. And, the best part is that our employees, business partners, customers and the friends who share our purpose are as passionate about finding an end to breast cancer as we are.

Mandeville, LA - Family Promise of St. Tam-Painting with a Purpose
12/7/2014 - Family Promise of St Tammany is a community solution to the need for a safe shelter for homeless families with children. According to the Northlake Homeless Coalition, on an average night in St Tammany parish, there are 61 persons comprising 17 families who are homeless. (Northlake Homeless Coalition, January 2013). There are 1250 children in the St Tammany Parish public school system (May 2014) identified as homeless. Over 80% of these families are without a home of their own and are living “doubled up” with family and friends. At this time there are NO shelters in St Tammany where families can be housed together. There are 182 independent Family Promise affiliates in 42 states. The interfaith community network provides for homeless children and families by hosting them in their church facilities 3-4 times per year, providing shelter, meals, and support services. A day center provides a one stop for existing community services to resolve issues with employment, housing, and other barriers to independence. The families are transported from the host church to the day center via a 15-passenger van. The Family Promise model works by leveraging what the community already has to offer. By uniting church facilities, a day center, existing social services, and a van, we can do what individuals alone cannot do. Choose to be a part of the solution today. End homelessness for our families and children in St Tammany Parish Donate now to Family Promise of St Tammany and change a life.
