On Sunday, March 23rd, the Tampa location of Painting with a Twist had two cool events going on simultaneously in their two studios. Each of these events are held at intervals at the Painting with a Twist locations in both Tampa and St. Petersburg. In the St. Petersburg studio, "We had 32 painters at our fundraiser for the Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida," Leslie Gay said. "You will see why this organization is near and dear to our hearts in one of the pictures in this album (on Facebook). $900 was raised for them as part of our monthly Painting with a Purpose."

Painting with a Twist studios at 2527 Central Ave. and 2821 S MacDill Ave offer group painting classes. The classes last two to three hours and cost $25 to $45 depending on the subject. The pictures painted on canvas range from beach scenes and the Eiffel Tower to Warholesque palm trees and the Pier. Customers can check the calendar to see which painting out of hundreds of options will be taught when. They bring their own snacks and drinks, often wine, which makes for a great group outing, date night or birthday party.

I can’t even draw a stick figure!” It’s a common phrase that Joanna Ledingham hears from first-timers. But by the look of the art on the canvases, you wouldn’t believe anyone in the room was artistically challenged. Ledingham, an artist and teacher at Painting with a Twist, is one of two instructors who helped the class depict beautiful, black birds on a red sunset last Thursday night, November 10.

Isn’t it amazing what a little paint, direction, and wine can accomplish? ;)
Seriously. Can you believe I painted that? I still can’t!
A couple of weeks ago my friend Kristin sent me an invite for a painting class event that supported the local Ronald McDonald House. For $35 you got a canvas, paint, step-by-step painting directions, and the feel good knowledge of knowing you were supporting a good cause.

Expectations might vary, but everyone begins with a blank canvas, literally. Hours later, each will take home an example of painting talent, a work of art created from scratch.
That is the reality most weeknights, when a South Tampa studio draws an eclectic group of aspiring artists.

Painting with a Twist, a franchise of a Louisiana-born business, is geared toward those who may never have picked up a paintbrush. Under the eye of a trained artist, visitors paint a canvas in acrylic that they take home. They are invited to bring their own alcohol — beer or wine are most common — and are encouraged to sip as they paint.
