Our Sherman, TX Painting with a Twist Artists
I grew up in a home where my mom was always doing craft projects. I took art in high school but was very intimidated by others so I didn't take painting seriously again until my kids began school and I wanted to learn watercolor. I took a couple of semesters at a Junior college and found an outlet for some of my work in a gallery. At some point my kids activities took so much time I sat my art aside again. A friend saw an ad for part time artists needed at a new business called Painting with a Twist so I applied and got the job. It has opened an entire new confidence in myself and my artistic ability. With the encouragement of my PWAT owner, Tedra Franklin, I started a side business making clay ornaments. I was just beginning to dabble in this new medium when i started working at PWAT. It has now grown from a hobby into a real business. I never dreamed I would hear people tell me they plan to buy an ornament every year until they have a tree full of nothing but Catlick Studios ornaments.
Born in Denison, Matthew has lived all over the great state of Texas but returned home, as all good salmon do, to get married and have babies. Before gaining his BA in Studio Art (and half of an MFA) he had an AAS in Golf Course Management and worked as a golf course superintendent. Before THAT, he played music. Lots of music. Sweet, sweet music. With a preference for the Masterwork paintings, he encourages his classes to love what they are doing with the paint and not judge themselves by their unrealistic standards of what they THINK it SHOULD look like.
Technically a Texas native, Tealie was raised in Tennessee and New Mexico. She is currently in school working on her art degree. Portraiture and watercolor is her "thing", and her favorite genre of art is surrealism. When she's not painting or doodling, Tealie has her nose in a book or is out on a hike with her trusty pup, Scout. Her hair is probably a different color every time you see her, which is usually dancing badly on the PWAT stage between instructions.
Meet Joshep Barrueta- He's just living the artist life and trying to get his art work out there. His work is focused in painting but I also has extensive knowledge in ceramics. Whenever he's not in the studio you can find him on hikes or concerts with friends. He is a self proclaimed nerd about all things art, music, and pizza! He loves seeing a person really enjoy the art they’re creating and having fun.
