Really! We promise! However, we know there are a few planners and preppers in this audience. So, here are some bonus instructions for everyone who likes to be extra-prepared.

Today’s topic: How to Blend colors on canvas using acrylic paint

Here is a video for those visual learners among us.

Grab your supplies, pour a glass of wine, and let’s blend colors.

1. At Painting with a Twist we typically use flat brushes to apply paint and blend the background. We use 1" flat or 16 flat brush here.

2. Colors needed in this case are Pthalo Blue, Pthalo Green, Chrome Yellow and Titanium White, this PWAT lingo of course, you can use any color once you get the technique down pat.

3. Dip liberally into your pallet and take a lot of paint, paint adjacent strips of the colors that you want to use. Make sure you wash your brush thoroughly and squeeze out all the water from it, this is especially important if you go from darker colors to lighter colors especially Yellow.

4. Next wash the brush thoroughly and squeeze out all the water from it. Blend two adjacent color lines by brushing to and fro between the color strips.

5. To avoid start and stop lines, make sure your stroke starts from one end and ends at the other end of the canvas or area.

6. You can add some white in the blend space and blend up and down. White helps the lighter colors pop and make the blend area more opaque.

Happy Blending! Cheers
