Katy W., Professional Puppeteer & Theater Maker
Katy loves to create, sing, perform, and create memorable experiences in our studio! In addition to her job at Painting with a Twist she runs her own puppet design company, Katy Williams Design. She is a nationally recognized professional puppeteer and theatre maker. Katy loves all puppetry, specializing in creatures, suitcase crankies, and front facing shadow puppetry. Her mission is to accessibly spread the joy of puppetry in the Rocky Mountains, and she has been influential in implementing the art form in recent Colorado theatre. Katy is responsible for starting the Rocky Mountain Puppet Slam in 2018, producing three slams a year. She also created the children's festival, Puppet Palooza. In 2019 she received the prestigious True West award for her work. She was a featured presenter and performer at the National Puppetry Festival 2019 and 2023, served on the board of Puppeteers of America for three years, and is the President of the Rocky Mountain Puppetry Guild. Most recently her puppets and puppet direction were enjoyed by audiences in Theatreworks’ “The Little Prince” and in “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” at the Fine Arts Center.
She grew up in the mountains of Manitou Springs and loves spending time in her home state with her cat Sterling and dog Taevo.
