What is Painting with a Twist?

Painting with a Twist is a fun art studio for anyone interested in painting! In our in-studio events, we teach the stage painting on for that class step-by-step.   We also offer open studio and Pop In & Paint Events where you can choose a different painting and paint on your own with written directions and a copy of the completed painting to look at.  For in-studio and Twist at Home we use acrylic paints and previous art experience is not necessary to have great success!

Are "Office Hours: the same as Your Scheduled Painting Classes?

No! Our regular Office Hours are Monday – Friday from 9 am-2 pm. This is when the studio is open for phone calls, booking private parties etc… Our painting class times vary and are on the website under the Events tab at the top of the webpage.  

Do you offer Painting with a Twist gift cards?
Yes! We make it easy to give fun painting experiences to friends and loved ones. 
Purchase a gift card online today. Gift cards can be redeemed towards painting events online with a click of a button or at any of our studio locations around the country. Painting with a Twist gift cards do not have expiration dates!

Do you tip at Painting with a Twist? 
All tips are appreciated but never expected. If you had a great experience with your instructor, let them know!  

How do in-studio events work?

We typically have an event calendar that displays the specific paintings we will be teaching step-by-step and at what date and time. If you see a painting you like and it's scheduled on a day you can attend, you can go ahead and reserve your spot by registering online. The artist/instructor will guide the whole class step-by-step on how to complete that specific painting.  We also offer open studio at specifically marked events where you can choose any painting in our studio and Pop-In & Paint hours where you can choose a painting from our painting binder that offers written directions.  

How much does it cost to attend an in-studio event?

The cost is determined by the event but ranges from $35-$75.

New Option- Pop In & Paint....So Many Options!

With Pop-In & Paint, YOU are in the driver's seat! You get to choose your painting, the surface to paint on, and the day & time of your visit (check out our Pop-In & Paint hours). So whether you want to paint a beautiful seascape or mountainscape or paint on canvas or wood or any other surface, the decision is yours! Whatever you pick, we promise you'll have a great time in our studio doing your own thing at your own pace.  The cost starts at $40 per guest on a 18" Wood cutout Shape.  We do require a $40 online table deposit for your group of 1-20.  This deposit is refundable in the form of studio credit if you can not make it and give us at least a 12-hour cancelation notice like all in-studio events.  This $40 fee will be applied to your total guest fee.  (Example-If you are signing up just one guest to paint and you choose a 18" Wood Cutout Shape, you will not owe any additional money when you arrive.  If you are signing up 5 guests, your $40 deposit will be deducted from the remaining cost once each guest chooses their products and any additional add-ons like glitter and bows).   When you arrive at the studio, you will choose a painting from our painting binder, not from all the paintings in the studio like at open studio.  We have 200+ painting options and more are being added each day you can choose from that all come with written directions as well as a finished copy of the painting you can look at.  This is a self-guided event.  The artist will be at the studio to get you paints and supplies, but you will be working alone with minimal assistance from the artist.  

Create Your Own DIY Scented Candle!

We are excited to let you know about an awesome new offering here at Painting with a Twist, DIY Candles! Our candles are made of all-natural soy wax and have a 40-hour burn life. Dozens of scents to choose from. They're fun to make and also make the perfect gifts! 

This Fun Filled experience typically takes about 15-30 minutes, so that is why you will be arriving 30 minutes before your painting event. When you arrive, you will begin by smelling and choosing your favorite scent or scents!!  With 24 fragrances, we know you will find something you’ll love. Next you will choose your label and mix your oil.  We will be there from start to finish to ensure you leave with a perfect creation. 

What’s next?

Once your candle(s) is poured, they take 1 1/2 to 2 hours to set and cool before they are ready to go home with you.  Your painting class just happens to take that amount of time also, so when your class is over, you will be ready to take your candle home with you as well!   

Each custom candle costs $20.  Reservations are highly recommended as some of our events sell out!  

Are we allowed to bring in beverages and food?

Yes, feel free to bring snacks and Non-Alcoholic Drinks to enjoy during class if you would like.

  • Our Studio has been and continues to be Alcohol-Free & Family Friendly. The State of Kentucky prohibits BYOB. If you wish to purchase a drink, feel free to stop by The Hilton Doubletree which is just steps from our door before or after your class!

Do I need to bring anything with me to class?

Your reservation fee includes everything you need to create a beautiful and unique painting (with the exception of Pop In & Paint reservations which may require an additional payment depending on your group size and product choices)! When you arrive you are supplied with an apron, canvas, brushes, paints, and step-by-step art instruction throughout the class if you sign up for our featured painting for that day and time! When class is done, your artwork is ready to hang! The only thing you may want to bring is some refreshments.

Can I just paint whatever I want?

Yes, We now offer 2 additional options that allow you to paint whatever you like! 

1-Open Studio- This option is a scheduled event on specific days and times with Ashley during a standard event.  At this event, you can choose any painting in the studio with over 150 options to choose from.  You will also receive any written direction available for that painting and the finished painting to look at while you are creating your masterpiece.  Ashley will also be close by if you need anything at all!!     

2-Pop In & Paint- This is our newest option allowing guests to stop in at their convenience.   To join Pop In & Paint, check our calendar for available days and times, then register online for a time that works for you.   (Example-instead of a strict 6:30-8:30 pm event time, Pop-In & Paint hours may be from 6-9 pm.  This allows you more flexibility to choose a time that works best for you)!

If you want to do your own thing or paint something different than the stage painting, look for either Open Studio or Pop In & Paint Times on our calendar on specially marked days and times!

Can I stop in anytime and paint?

We hold classes at specific times and those are the only times we guarantee an artist is on duty.  We do have a few Pop In & Paint Hours where you can receive a table online and pop in anytime during the specified hours to paint on your own!  To join a class or to register for pop in & paint, please view our calendar, then select a painting or event you like, and register online. Pre-registration is required for all classes.

How do I book a private party?

Call us during office hours to check availability for the date you want. You will be asked to give a credit card number to hold your spot. We will keep your credit card information on file to reserve a party date and time for you. Please see the Party Info page for further details.  

  • Our Host Paints Free offer is for any private events booked on a Monday-Thursday from 5/14-8/29/24 at our location.  Monday-Thursday at 4 pm we have a 9 guest minimum and on Thursday evenings we have a 15 guest minimum.  

How do I sign up for a group to attend an open to the public class?

Option 1: Select the number of seats you want to reserve for the specific class online and pay online.

Option 2: Ask everyone in your group to reserve individually online and to specify a group name or point person in the "Special Requests" box.

We do have a customer rewards program you will want to get in on! Before registering, make sure to set up a rewards account. Creating an account is FREE and you will receive 5,000 points just for joining. You will also earn discounts on future classes! To set up an account, go to the top right of the page and click on PAINT POINTS. You will be asked for an email address and a password. Once you have an account set up, make sure to log in each time you register to receive your rewards!

Do I have to make a reservation? Can I just walk in?

If you want to guarantee a seat for yourself, you have to make a reservation. Many classes will sell out. Also, if there are not any reservations for a class, we may cancel the class or switch the painting. We set up a painting station for each person. Please make a reservation so we can set up for you and have you seated appropriately with your group if you are joining one.

When will you be doing (insert painting name) again?

We try to provide a combination of old favorites and new paintings on each calendar. If there is a painting you really want to see on the next calendar, email us at and we might be able to accommodate your request or join us at Any Open Studio time to paint it!  

Can my child come with me to paint?

All of our events are open to All ages!

  • All guests must be able to sit on a backless stool for the entire class and follow step-by-step directions if signing up for a stage painting.  If signing up for open studio or Pop-In & Paint all ages are also welcome!  Everyone attending any event must be registered. Anyone attending under the age of 13 must have a registered adult in their group.

Can my friends come and watch us without painting?

SPECTATORS/NON-REGISTERED GUESTS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT ANY EVENT, WHICH INCLUDES BABIES & NON-REGISTERED CHILDREN OR ADULTS. (The only exceptions are if a guest has a special need and has cleared it with us before the event).

When do you post a new monthly schedule?

The calendar is posted on the 1st of the month for the following month, however, offerings do change from time to time!

Will my painting be dry at the end of the night?

Yes, if there are a few damp places we have hairdryers that will dry them quickly.

What do I wear?

Wear whatever is comfortable and you don't mind if a little paint gets on it. We do supply aprons, but if you by chance get paint on your clothes and it dries, it will not come out. If you catch it while it's still wet you can usually get it out with some soap and water.

What size is the painting surface?

This varies on the product you choose. We now offer most events with a choice of products. You may have the option of a 16 x 20-inch standard canvas, a 16X20-inch Framed Canvas, or a 10x30 Long Canvas, as well as our Real Pine Wood Boards in our 10.5X47 Porch Leaner or 16X20, Shiplap Pallets and Wood Cutout Shapes and Wood Trays.

Cancellation Policy:

Please note our policy to cancel applies to individuals in all public and private events.

  • If you need to cancel your reservation for any reason, please notify the Studio at least 12 hours in advance and a Studio Credit will be issued. All Refunds are done in the form of Studio Credit, which can be used towards a future in-studio public event for up to 2 years as of 1/1/2022. (Comped/Donated Certificates are good for up to 2 years unless otherwise stated on the certificate).
  • "No Shows", Guests arriving 15 minutes or later after the scheduled start time or Guests not following the Age or Alcohol Policy listed above will NOT be issued a studio credit and will lose their registration fee.
  • Private Event Hosts follow the cancellation policy terms outlined in the Private Event Agreement sent to each host.
  • Bad Weather: Class will cancel if a weather emergency is declared or we determine the roads to be too unsafe to travel on, otherwise our cancellation policy is as stated above. In the rare case of a class canceling due to poor weather conditions, studio credit or a Twist at Home Kit will be issued to all registered guests. Please see our website for updates in case of questionable weather.
  • Late Arrivals: If you arrive 15 minutes or later after the scheduled start time you may not be allowed to paint and lose the registration fee. Please arrive no later than 10 minutes before the scheduled class time and we will have a blast!
  • Twist at Home Kit sales are Final. Studio Credits can not be used for Twist at Home Kits.
